During the first season of Breaking Bad, Skyler White (Annabeth Gish) and her son, Walter Hartwell White Jr., who later reverted to his nickname “Flynn,” had some great moments together as the family worked their way through the meth business. They were happy. Junior had a new job at the Beneke Fabricators, Skyler was pregnant and running her own company, and Walter had arranged things so that his family would receive some of his drug money when he died.
When things started to go sour, however, it was Skyler’s son who took the brunt of her anger. As Walter’s involvement with the meth business increased, he manipulated Jr to take sides and turn on his mother.
Skyler eventually sends him and Holly to stay with her parents, and while they’re there he tries to get her to kick Walt out of the house. The plan ultimately fails, and the two reconcile, and Jr is glad his father is back in his life.
At a recent Breaking Bad reunion panel on Conan, actor RJ Mitte revealed that initially he pitched the idea of killing his character off, but showrunner and head writer Vince Gilligan shut down the idea. He explained that any harm done to the family would have eventually been tied back to Walter White, and he didn’t want that.
