Drake's "What Happened to Virgil" Music Video

March 25, 2024

Virgil Abloh died in November 2021 after a private battle with cancer. His passing shook the fashion, music, and art worlds. Several artists including Drake, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, and Tyler, the Creator have paid tribute to the late Louis Vuitton menswear artistic director and Off White founder. Durk has joined the ranks with a new music video directed by Cole Bennett. The video pays homage to Abloh through multiple sets that recreate the luxury designer's fantastical fashion runways and cultural artifacts.

A garden of flowers opens the music video with "What Happened to Virgil" written in Helvetica fonts over a recreation of the stage for his Paris men's Fall/Winter 2022 presentation. Following the garden, a scene is set inside Drake's private jet, designed by Abloh. Flowers are also placed in Off-White stores globally.

The music video is the latest release from Durk's seventh studio album 7220 (2022). It was produced by Chopsquad DJ and features fellow American rapper Gunna. The song was released on April 12 and marks the first No. 1 single from the project.
