In late July, Pastor John Gray was hospitalized with life-threatening blood clots in his lungs. The Relentless Church leader shared with his congregation that he was recovering from a saddle pulmonary embolism, a condition that can cause the death of a person within hours. Following his health scare, supporters were quick to share their hope for his recovery.
Gray is known for his loud and unorthodox style of preaching that has landed him on national television shows such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Donahue, Good Morning America, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung, CNN, and others. He is a popular speaker on the national lecture circuit and has two published books.
After becoming a member of the leadership team at Houston’s Lakewood Church under Joel Osteen, he relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, in 2018 to take over Redemption Church and rename it Relentless Church. Relentless Church quickly became one of the nation’s fastest-growing megachurches.
While the church is now a multimillion-dollar enterprise, Gray continues to travel extensively to meet with his large following of followers. He has appeared on several nationally syndicated TV shows and speaks at events across the country.
He also has a three-season show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, called The Book of John Gray that gives viewers unprecedented access to his life as a high-profile pastor. Recently, he was criticized for buying his wife, Aventer, a Lamborghini as an eighth wedding anniversary gift.
