Lil Durk and Gunna Reveal What Happened to Virgil

April 2, 2024

The death of Virgil Abloh was a blow to the fashion world, where the Off White founder and Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director was known for toying with streetwear’s populist possibilities while tugging on haute couture’s heartstrings. In his wake, artists from music to art were quick to pay tribute. Now, rappers Lil Durk and Gunna have released a new music video for their single 'What Happened to Virgil', paying homage to Abloh by recreating multiple sets that the designer was famous for.

Lil Durk is a Chicago rapper who is rising through the ranks of hip-hop’s biggest players. His debut studio album, Remember My Name, released in 2015 through Def Jam Recordings and became his first mixtape to chart on the Billboard 200. Since then, Durk has released six more commercial mixtapes and one extended play.

Throughout his career, Durk has been involved in feuds with several prominent hip-hop acts. Most notably, Durk was involved in a feud with fellow Gangster Disciple and Glo Gang affiliate Jojo, after Jojo offended Durk’s gang set by testifying against fellow Black Disciples RondoNumbaNine, CDai and DRose 600 in their murder trials.

In 2019, Durk was a headliner at Rolling Loud, an outdoor music festival in Miami, alongside the likes of Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and Future. In the same year, Durk was named by Forbes as one of the most promising rappers under 30. The following year, he dropped his second album, 7220, which was well received by critics and fans alike.
