Many traditional disciplines incorporate meditation into their training. Tai Chi, for example, is a form of moving meditation that involves deep breathing and a focused mind. The purpose of this practice is to circulate a person’s energy, known as chi, throughout their body. It’s believed that excess chi is stored in a cavity below the navel and that meditating helps to release it so that it can be re-channeled into the rest of the body.
Martial artists that meditate are more able to stay focused on the tasks at hand and can better manage their emotions. They are also better able to control their physical reactions and can anticipate and predict their opponent’s moves, allowing them to strike with precision.
