Its founder, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, was a Tibetan Buddhist meditation master and author of many books. He was also a teacher, activist and artist. He founded an international network of urban and rural meditation centers and retreat centers. In addition, he established the Shambhala Publications division and authored several important works of Buddhism and its teachings.
In San Francisco, the Shambhala Meditation Center of San Francisco offers various programs, including free weekly dharma talks and meditation classes. Its staff and teachers are committed to building a compassionate society that is open, supportive, and welcoming to all. The Center is a non-profit, so it is always looking for ways to improve and expand its operations.
The Winter 2024 Practice Period led by Doshin Mako Voelkel at City Center will run from January 24 – March 30. The Spring 2024 six-week Residential Practice Period led by Kokyo Henkel at Green Gulch Farm will take place from February 28 – April 8. Both are open to both visitors and online participation.
