Michael and Marlon have a background in dance and cognitive science, and have spent the last ten years studying and practicing the arts and sciences. They are currently living in Western Massachusetts. Having studied under a bevy of renaissance masters, the pair also have a background in meditation. The IMS in Barre, MA is where they practice, and where they have recently moved. This is the perfect place for them to share their passion for the mind and body, and to inspire others to live a more meaningful life.

Narayan Liebenson Grady

Narayan Liebenson Grady and her husband Michael Grady are instructors at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The center was founded by Larry Rosenberg in 1985 and features an interview room and meditation hall as well as a library and space for walking meditation. They also offer non-residential retreats.

Michael Grady began practicing Insight meditation in 1974 with Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg. He later studied with Master Sheng Yen. Since the early 1980s, he has been guiding his students at the center. Other teachers at the center include Marcia Rose, Tarda Brach and Gloria Ambrosia. One of the most popular courses taught at the center is the Mindfulness Practice Course. This course introduces the basics of mindfulness meditation to beginners. It focuses on how to find calmness and stillness in the midst of a busy life.

Greg Scharf

The Michael Grady meditation by Greg Scharf is an approach that focuses on the nature of the mind and its connection to the world. The guiding teacher for the Insight Meditation Society and the Forest Refuge, Greg Scharf has been practicing meditation for over ten years. He is also an accomplished humanitarian and has a longstanding relationship with the people of Burma.

He currently teaches in Barre, Massachusetts. Previously, he was a guiding teacher at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. While he is based in Western Mass, he has traveled extensively. His teachings are rooted in the concept of interpersonal mindfulness, which is a form of insight dialogue. It emphasizes the importance of awareness, body relaxation, and humor.

His students include Bart van Melik, Janet Surrey, and Florence Meleo-Meyer. They each practice and teach the Insight Dialogue method, which is an extension of the Insight Meditation technique. Their retreats focus on meditation as a means to discover our own truths.

Joseph Grady

As a guiding teacher at the Insight Meditation Society, Joseph Goldstein is a longtime practitioner of meditation and meditation practice. He is also a co-author of Insight Meditation: Correspondence course and Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Awakening. His first interest in Buddhism came as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand in the mid-1960s. Since then, he has studied under some of the best Buddhist teachers in India, Tibet and Burma.

Goldstein is a founder of the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies and a co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society. He has been practicing and leading meditation retreats since 1974. He is a core teacher at the IMS in Barre, MA. He has also taught at Spirit Rock meditation center, Forest Refuge and a variety of other centers.
