We’ve all heard about the benefits of meditation. Far from the hippy dippy stigma that it used to carry, scientifically-proven stress reduction techniques like transcendental meditation (TM) are gaining popularity and momentum. In fact, TM has been shown to decrease vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis, increase creativity and energy levels and lower blood pressure.
The American Heart Association also recently gave TM its stamp of approval for coronary heart disease, noting that it produces acute and longitudinal reductions in sympathetic tone, cardiovascular reactivity, and hospitalisation rates, in addition to other improvements in risk factors. Moreover, the Transcendental Meditation technique is unique in that it is simple, natural, effortless and doesn’t require any change in diet, belief system or lifestyle.
Jonah’s guest on this week’s podcast is a man who knows first-hand about the benefits of TM. Bob Roth, who runs the David Lynch Foundation, teaches TM and has been doing so for 50 years. He’s taught people who are household names – but he’s also guided at-risk kids, veterans and victims of domestic violence.
