In mantra meditation, we repeat a certain phrase or word over and over again. This can be done out loud or silently in the mind. Mantra meditation is a good way to focus the mind and redirect your thoughts when they start to wander.
Mindful breathing is simply paying attention to the breath as it moves in and out of the body. Also, this can be done with the eyes open or closed. As with mantra meditation, if the mind starts to wander, simply bring your attention back to the breath.
Walking meditation is a moving meditation. Instead of sitting still, we focus on the sensation of our feet moving as we walk. Walking meditation can be done indoors or outdoors. It is a good way to get some exercise while also clearing the mind.
In loving-kindness meditation, we focus on generating feelings of love and compassion towards ourselves and others. We start by repeating phrases like "may I be happy" and "may all beings be happy." This type of mediation can help us to cultivate compassion for ourselves and others.
