What Does the Soul Look Like?

June 13, 2023

When people ask “what does the soul look like?”, a common answer is that it is a spirit or presence that inhabits your body. This is true, but it doesn’t fully explain what a soul is. To understand it fully, we need to consider the animating qualities that lights and souls share.

The Bible describes the soul as the full integration that makes up every person, a unique individuality. The spiritual soul is immortal, immediately created by God, separated from the body at death, but it will be reunited with the body in the final resurrection.

This article will discuss the nature of the soul, its importance, and the difference between a soul that has God’s light and one without it. It also explores the ramifications of what happens to a soul that does not acknowledge its sin and God’s forgiveness.

Spiritually, the soul is pure. It is God-obsessed and thirsts for Him (Psalm 42:2, Psalm 63:1, Psalm 143:6). It is capable of transcending the limitations of its physical form and achieving the highest level of perfection possible for the soul of man.

Historically, there have been a variety of theories about the physical properties and location of the soul. Some have suggested that the soul takes up space in the body and has physical weight. Leonardo da Vinci was convinced that the soul was located in the center of the head, and a physician named Duncan MacDougall believed that the soul could be measured by monitoring the change in weight of tuberculosis patients at the time of their death.
