Josephine "Joey" Lillian Potter is a character played by Katie Holmes on the American teen drama series Dawson's Creek. Joey lives with her older sister Bessie, their son Alexander and (sometimes) her boyfriend Bodie Wells. Her mother died of cancer, and her father has been in and out of prison for drug trafficking.

She's smart and sexy, but also a little bit dumb. She is impulsive and often has trouble following through on her decisions. She tries to play the field a bit, but eventually settles down with Pacey in the early seasons of the show.

Her first time losing her virginity to Pacey was so iconic that it gave girls everywhere wildly unrealistic expectations for their own first times. She tried to do it again with Jack a season later, but it didn't go as smoothly and she ended up hating herself for it.

In season five, she moves to Boston to attend Worthington College and meets the sexy English professor Audrey Liddell. She and Audrey share a fling but Joey doesn't have much romantic interest in anyone else in her new social circle.

At Gail's baby shower, she discovers that she is pregnant and tries to tell Pacey before she goes into labor. He gets upset, and she insists that he isn't ready to be a father. He apologizes, but then he gets arrested for public drunkenness. Despite her protests, he does take the baby into his care.
