What Happened to Bishop on The Rookie?

March 22, 2024

Afton Williamson blew the minds of The Rookie fans when she announced over the summer that she wouldn't be returning for Season 2 as her character, Talia Bishop. The actress wrote on Instagram that she had left the ABC series because of "racist discrimination and sexual harassment" from members of the cast and crew. While she didn't name names, she did point to the hair department and a recurring guest star.

While it's not uncommon for dramas to write off beloved characters, Williamson's departure was a shock because Bishop had been a key part of the show since its premiere. She was the training officer for the show's main character, John Nolan, and helped him navigate his first year as an LAPD detective.

But in the Season 2 premiere, which aired on Sunday (September 29), it was revealed that Bishop had left the LAPD to pursue her calling with ATF. In a heartbreaking scene, Nolan told his partner Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) that Bishop had quit the force for good and that it was best for both of them.

The rest of the cast, including Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O'Neil and Titus Makin Jr., returned to the light procedural for its sophomore run, but there was no sign of Bishop. Sources tell TVLine that the two parties agreed to part ways amicably. The news comes after a turbulent summer for The Rookie. The series' co-star Mercedes Mason was killed off in the Season 1 finale after a shootout with an illegal drug gang.
