What Happened to Christian Slater?

March 13, 2024

During the late 80’s and early 90’s Christian Slater captured Hollywood’s attention. He was a charismatic actor who often seemed like a young Jack Nicholson. He had a string of cult classic movies to his credit including Heathers and True Romance. However, the actor was also prone to making headlines for his run-ins with the law and struggled with substance abuse.

Slater’s troubles with drugs began in his childhood when he was introduced to marijuana and cocaine at the age of 10. This led to a series of drug-related incidents in high school. By the time he was a freshman at UCLA he was using both substances and alcohol.

It was not long before Slater’s reckless lifestyle caught up with him and he was arrested multiple times. The actor was arrested after kicking a police officer down the stairs in 1997. He was found to have a mixture of heroin and cocaine in his system and admitted to assaulting the officer.

While in rehab Slater decided to change his ways and sought out new life experiences. One of these adventures included diving 120ft underwater with a bucket of chum to swim with sharks. The experience transformed Slater and he vowed to never go back to his old ways.

Today Slater is sober and has a family. He is also an accomplished Broadway actor with appearances in a number of productions including Macbeth, Side Man and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He also voiced the character of Mulgarath in Disney+’s upcoming adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles alongside Freddie Highmore, Seth Rogan and Martin Short.
