Healthcare influencer Ebiowei Porbeni, also known as Ebi Eats and NurseLifeRN, has died after a battle with leukemia. The Intensive Care nurse and host of the popular podcast Nurse Speak amassed a huge following on social media, where he shared funny memes and stories about working in healthcare. In September 2019, he was diagnosed with leukemia and openly shared his struggles with his followers. He also started a fundraiser to help with his medical costs.
He had more than 1.2 million followers on Instagram and 171,000 on his personal account. Both have since been set to private. The news of his passing has prompted tributes across social media.
When Portland start-up BALA footwear, maker of high-performance shoes for nurses, paired up with Ebi, who had built a following of over a million on his Nurselifern channel, it seemed like a match made in marketing heaven. He had a real connection with the nursing community, which BALA’s founders knew it would need in order to expand its business.
As part of a larger partnership with Be The Match, Ebi encouraged his followers to give back and register to be a bone marrow donor. In January, he shared a video about the campaign and the impact that could have on patients in need of a blood stem cell transplant.
