What Happened to Erin Lindsay on Chicago P.D?

July 29, 2023

When it comes to NBC's Chicago TV franchise, female characters break stereotypes, subvert expectations and do things that female television characters typically don’t do. These females are at the center of some of One Chicago’s most important and inspiring stories, including the wildly popular NBC crime dramas that are Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D, and Chicago Med. One such character is Detective Erin Lindsay, who plays a recurring role on Chicago P.D as a member of the Intelligence Unit. Erin’s backstory is quite interesting. She had a tough upbringing and a lot of run-ins with the law, but she was saved by Sergeant Hank Voight (Stanley Duff) and his wife, who took her in as a surrogate daughter. They helped her graduate high school and she eventually became a detective. Erin was a dedicated member of the team, and she even started a romantic relationship with Detective Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer).

In Season 4, Erin was held at knife-point by one of the hospital bombers in an interrogation room, and she took it one step too far by using brutality on the suspect to get information out of her. Her actions got her snared in an Internal Affairs investigation, and she was forced to leave Chicago P.D for a job with the FBI in New York City.

Fans were sad to see her go, but it wasn’t all bad news for the actress, who had a big-screen movie in the works at the time of her exit. She later spoke to Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast and gave more details about what led to her decision to leave the series.
