What Happened to Ginuwine?

February 5, 2024

The R&B singer can't hop on the pony like he used to. During his performance at the Lovers and Friends festival in Las Vegas this weekend, Ginuwine took a pretty nasty tumble off stage! The "In Those Jeans" singer attempted to jump from the main stage to a platform where a sign language interpreter was standing but he misjudged the distance and completely flopped. He was lucky that nobody was hurt, but the fall is definitely one for the internet archives.

Ginuwine, real name Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, rose to fame as a member of the Rochester, New York-based collective Swing Mob in the 90s and went on to collaborate with artists like Missy Elliott, Stephen Garrett and Timbaland, dropping several hit albums. His 1996 debut album Ginuwine... The Bachelor was a huge success, selling over 10 million records worldwide. But the same ol' G has had his share of ups and downs in the music business - at one point, he owed millions to debtors and the IRS and filed for bankruptcy.

But the shaky fall wasn't his only brush with the media this week. The Same Ol' G singer was featured in a recent episode of the CW's Magic With the Stars where he lost consciousness during a stunt. The show premieres October 22 and features celebrities such as Corbin Bleu, Miley Cyrus, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Frankie Muniz and Omarion competing to create stunning magic performances with the help of famed magician Criss Angel and his team. Ginuwine posted a throwback to Instagram after the incident, reassuring fans that he's okay.
