What Happened to Gus on Special Forces?

March 12, 2024

Fox's new reality series Special Forces takes 16 swanky celebrities away from their elite lifestyles and drops them in the middle of the Jordanian desert. The show aims to see who can endure 10 days of Special Ops training. With the help of former military personnel and grueling challenges, the recruits are forced to go beyond their comfort zones. During the February 15 episode, Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy experienced an extreme allergic reaction. HollywoodLife caught up with the 31-year-old to talk about his terrifying experience and why he had to exit the show.

The last time viewers saw Gus on the series was when he started coughing up a storm during a task called “Emergency Escape.” During the challenge, the recruits were put into a car and had to hold their breath underwater for 20 seconds while a DS agent was sitting next to them. Gus was able to make it through the challenge, but later on in the car, he started to have a severe allergy attack and began coughing up a storm.

As Gus continued to cough up a storm, the medics on hand were unable to figure out what was making him so sick. They eventually decided to give him a shot of epinephrine and that helped him get back to normal.

This isn’t the first time that a celebrity has had to leave the competition early. Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci was the first to drop out of Special Forces when his knee injury flared up, and NBA star Kenya Moore exited the following week after her pre-existing knee injury made it too painful to continue. Currently, only Carli Lloyd, Hannah Brown, Dwight Howard and former football player Danny Amendola remain.
