Hailey Mia is a talented teenager with a lot going for her. The 13-year-old New Jersey teen has impressed audiences since her blind audition on the singing competition series The Voice in 2021, and it's clear she is on the fast track to superstardom. But Mia wasn't born with this luck; she was born with a rare eye condition called double elevator palsy that is slowly taking her vision away.
According to her mother, she was diagnosed with this condition at birth, and she had surgery at age 7 to correct deteriorating vision in one eye. She says she regained the majority of her vision, but despite this, she knows her condition is a threat to her life and dreams. She was not going to let it hold her back, and she is on a path to greatness — if all goes well.
During her performance on the show, she sang Sia's Elastic Heart and got all four coaches to turn around their chairs in their first round of voting. After impressing the coaches, Mia chose to be on Team Ariana Grande.
But in the season finale, she switched over to Kelly Clarkson's squad in what appeared to be a calculated move. She's now in the home stretch of the competition and is proving that her vision is no barrier to her talent. But as she continues to impress, rumors are swirling about what is actually causing her vision problems.
