The story of how Isaiah Thomas went from the last pick in the 2011 NBA draft to two-time All-Star has been well documented. The diminutive Boston Celtics point guard captured the hearts of sports fans across the country after his heroic playoff run on a bum hip last spring, just weeks after his sister’s tragic death in a car crash. When he could finally play no more in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals, he was inconsolable in the trainer’s room at TD Garden. Thomas alternated between tears and screams, begging for the chance to continue his heroics.
The good news is that he did get to suit up again this year. He played in Jamal Crawford’s CRAWSOEVER Pro-Am League and for the Denver Nuggets G-League affiliate team, Grand Rapids Gold. He averaged a solid 43.1 points in those games.
While it’s unfortunate that the road back to the NBA has been so difficult for Thomas, the support and admiration of fans has kept him going. And that’s not just from his devoted followers on social media. He’s been able to turn his attention toward business ventures as well.
Thomas is the founder and CEO of Isiah International LLC, which manages various investments. The Chicago native also owns a real estate business and is involved in several other projects. He is also a basketball broadcaster for NBA TV. Despite all of his endeavors, there is no doubt that basketball remains the love of his life.
