What Happened to Jay Briscoe?

March 14, 2024

Real-life pro wrestler Jamin Pugh, who competed in Ring of Honor for two decades under the stage name jay briscoe, died Tuesday night in a head-on car accident in Delaware. He was 38. According to state police, 27-year-old Lillyanne Ternahan of Frankford swerved out of her lane on Laurel Road in Laurel, crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck Briscoe's pickup truck. Both died at the scene, police said. Briscoe's daughters, ages 12 and 9, were in the back seat and survived, but one suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition.

During the AEW Dynamite show, Briscoe's brother Mark jumped on the mic to speak about his sibling, calling him "a family man." He also remembered their 13-time reign as ROH world tag team champions together. In a special moment, Mark's daughters walked out onstage to join him and their sister.

Briscoe had been taking his daughters, ages 12 and 9, to a cheer competition when the crash occurred. The girls were properly restrained, police say, and the other driver reportedly failed to stay in her own lane. Police haven't yet determined what caused the accident or whether alcohol played a role. MLW owner Tony Khan, who acquired ROH last year, shared the news of the wrestling star's death on Twitter. He also thanked the community for their support, including an outpouring of prayers and well wishes. ROH fans and wrestlers also took to social media to offer their condolences.
