In each episode of HGTV series Home Town, hosts Ben and Erin Napier help clients turn their dream homes into reality. Occasionally, those clients are more interesting than others. One of them was a retired veteran named John Combe, who moved to Laurel, Mississippi after spending 10 years in Belize. He was looking for a nice, big, and relaxing holiday house, which is why he recruited the Napiers to renovate his property.
During his episode, he was asked about his financial situation. When he replied that he has no budget and that the hosting couple may spend whatever they want, it set him apart from the other contestants. He was blown away by the Napiers’ hard work and generosity, and even said that his new bathroom and spacious shower is his nirvana.
However, he later passed away on April 4, 2020. Despite his death, fans of the show left a number of endearing messages online in his honor.
During his appearance on the show, John was in his 70s and had a great personality. He was a retired vet who enjoyed traveling and embracing small-town life. He had a lot of love for his friends and family, and he was very grateful for everything they did for him. In his last years, he was battling cancer, but he kept on fighting and never gave up. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
