A clinical psychologist, Weinstein currently serves as the suicide prevention coordinator at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care Service and is an assistant professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College. He has also served in a variety of other mental health and education roles throughout New York, Maryland, and Mississippi dating back to 2000.
Weinstein’s research focuses on microeconomic theory and game theory. His current projects include a study of the impact of changing risk attitude on strategic behavior and the use of microeconomic theory to examine decision making under uncertainty. His work has been published in a number of leading journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and Journal of Economics Perspectives.
The son of Anne Kingsley and Donald Weinstein, a Renaissance historian, Jonathan was born in Florence, Italy on April 17, 1955. He received a bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and a master’s from New York University. He later attended law school at Stanford University.
Originally from Highland Park, Illinois, Weinstein began his career in the public sector in 1987, joining the Virginia Office of General Counsel as an assistant attorney. He was promoted to director of the litigation section in 1996, a position he held until his retirement from VLMMR in 2021.
