If you’re a fan of the Bronx-born rapper, then chances are you’ve heard about the shooting that took place back in June. Lil Tjay, real name Tione Jayden Merritt, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the incident, but he’s currently in stable condition and making progress. Some rumors have circulated on social media that the 22-year-old rapper has been pronounced brain dead or paralyzed, but these are false. In fact, he’s already begun producing some limited bodily movements.
In a video uploaded to his Instagram account earlier this week, Tjay appeared on camera for the first time since the shooting. He was wearing a medical neck brace in the clip and looked like he was in good spirits. He also showed off his tattoos for the first time. He’s still a little bruised up but it looks like the healing process is going well.
He’s been trending online since the video was released, with fans sending their best wishes for his recovery. The young MC has also been showing off his musical talent on social media.
The shootout reportedly occurred outside a Chipotle in Edgewater, New Jersey. The perpetrator, identified as Mohammed Konate, allegedly attempted to rob Tjay and two of his friends in the incident. Antoine Boyd and Jeffery Valdez were arrested for possession of unlawful weapons charges in connection with the incident.
TMZ reported that Tjay is undergoing life-saving surgery and was very close to death. He has had to cancel some upcoming shows and appearances as he continues to recover, but he’s doing well overall.
