Makayla was a fun-loving, smart and witty girl who was loved by all who knew her. She excelled in everything she did; she was a gymnast and volleyball player, and her art was showcased many times at the NSU Art Show. She was a member of the Nazarene Church of Broken Arrow, and she will be missed by her family and friends.
Makayla Lynn Brewster was born on February 16, 2008 in Pryor, Oklahoma to Anthony William and Angela (Peters) Brewster; she passed away on February 11, 2021 at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the age of 12. She is survived by her parents, Angela Brewster of Broken Arrow, and Anthony Brewster of Chouteau; her sisters, Brianna and Presley Brewster of Broken Arrow; grandparents, Ronald and Shauna Thomas of Chouteau; great-uncle Donald Gibbs of Broken Arrow; and her great-great-grandparent Jessie Gibbs of Chouteau.
She was a wonderful person who always put others before herself. She loved her family and she was very proud to be a part of them.
Her death was the result of bullying and she committed suicide 5 days before her 13th birthday. She was a beautiful girl and she deserved much better than what she got.
Bullying is one of the leading causes of teen suicide, and it is linked to emotional health problems. In order to help prevent suicide, victims need support from their families and communities. They need to have simple access to mental health care and they need to be able to develop coping mechanisms that will help them overcome their pain.
