What Happened to Mythbusters?

March 18, 2024

Mythbusters was a hit for over 14 seasons on Discovery. The show clocked in over 248 episodes of Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman debunking myths with their team of experts, including Kari Byron, Tory Belleci, and Grant Imahara. Sadly, the series came to an end earlier this year. However, the good news is that busting myths is still a popular thing to do.

While the show wasn’t always accurate in its scientific analysis, it did celebrate science and make it fun to watch. It also prioritized entertainment value over 80-page technical analysis, which would make for pretty boring television. Plus, it was always pretty entertaining to see things blow up on screen.

One of the show’s most beloved elements was its team. The Build Team, consisting of Byron, Belleci, and Imahara, helped out with the more complicated experiments. The three bonded while working on the show, and they kept up with their friendship afterward.

The other main team was the hosts, Savage and Hyneman. MythBusters was filmed at Hyneman’s M5 Industries special effects workshop, and most of his team worked on the show.

After season 3, metal worker Scottie Chapman was replaced by a member of his team, Grant Imahara, who brought experience with electrical and robotics work to the build team. When the Build Team left in 2014, Byron went on to host Thrill Factor with her partner Belleci, while Imahara and Byron launched their own Netflix show, White Rabbit Project.
