What Happened to Perry Mikell

After being convicted of murdering his wife, truck driver Joseph Perry Mikell spent years fighting for his life behind bars. But now, his family and friends are convinced he was wrongfully convicted and wants to clear his name. Join Chris Anderson and Fatima Silva for a special episode of Investigation Discovery’s Reasonable Doubt, airing tonight at 10/9c on ID GO, to find out what really happened to this man who was sentenced to life in prison.

In 1998, Barbara Sue Mikell was found shot dead in a seedy motel. Her husband was convicted of her death and is now serving a life sentence in Georgia. But her family and friends believe he’s innocent, and they want Chris and Fatima to help clear his name.

At his trial, Mikell asserted an alibi that he was working all day and couldn’t have been in the motel at the time of her murder. He testified that he was driving a lowboy truck, a vehicle that transports equipment, for his employer E.R Snell Contractor, and that he did not receive any calls on his phone between 2:17 pm and 5:05 pm that afternoon. He also claimed that he was busy moving equipment from a subdivision two miles off of I 20 in DeKalb County and couldn’t have been at the motel at the time of the crime.

However, a ballistics expert later found that the bullets that killed his wife did not match any of the guns that Perry owned. He also claims that the police were biased and had an ulterior motive for arresting him, and that his fiancee paid for the hotel room with their joint credit card.
