What Happened to Reggie Bush?

April 3, 2024

The former USC running back was one of the most electric players in college football history. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 and had a remarkable collegiate career, including two Trojans national championships. However, near the end of his collegiate career, the NCAA accused Bush of accepting improper benefits in a pay-to-play arrangement. As a result, the organization handed down unprecedented sanctions against USC and punishments for the Heisman winner.

The NCAA investigation found that Bush and his family received gifts and payments in exchange for advertising opportunities, according to media reports. Those arrangements were against NCAA rules at the time, but today they're common in the name, image and likeness (NIL) contracts that athletes can now enter into.

In the past, Bush has criticized the NCAA for making false statements about his case. He is continuing his fight for justice and wants the NCAA to return the Heisman Trophy to him. He recently launched a defamation lawsuit against the governing body and claims that its 2021 statement that he had a "pay-to-play type arrangement" was false.

In addition to his ongoing lawsuit against the NCAA, Bush has also left Fox Sports. The former Heisman Trophy winner hasn't returned to the network's Big Noon Kickoff desk this season due to a contract dispute. NBCLA reports that Fox Sports was considering replacements such as Robert Griffin III and Desmond Howard before Bush and the company finally reached an agreement on a new deal.
