Freddie Dennis and Sam Clemmett's deep connection as Queen Charlotte and King George's personal secretary and aide-de-camp in the new Netflix spinoff "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" came as a sweet surprise for many viewers. But one big question remains: What happened to Reynolds?
In the episode that aired on April 16, the series cuts to a ball and young Brimsley and Reynolds dance together. But then the scene cuts back to the current Bridgerton timeline and shows an older Brimsley dancing alone, leaving fans to assume that Reynolds passed away or their relationship ended in a way that was not shown on the show.
But in a recent interview, Hugh Sachs (the actor who plays the adult version of Brimsley) revealed that his character and Reynolds are still alive and well. He also addressed the end of their on-screen relationship, saying that it was a decision based on their responsibilities to the king and queen.
It makes sense that the pair would have to choose between their own happiness and their duties to the king and queen, especially since Reynolds is one of the few people who knows about the king's illness and how it is affecting him. But it's a heartbreaking choice regardless of what made them decide to be apart.
Thankfully, the door is still open for Brimsley and Reynolds to reunite sometime in the future on the flagship series. With the recent announcement of a third and fourth season for the period drama, it seems like the writers will leave their doors wide open for returning characters to make an appearance.
