If you’re a fan of FX series Mayans M.C, you might be surprised to learn that the show’s season premiere paid tribute to a late cast member. Roel Navarro was an American actor who appeared on soap operas like The Young and the Restless and General Hospital as well as in cult-classic telenovelas such as Jane the Virgin and TV shows such as Empire and Bosch. However, he became a favorite of fans for his role as Pavia, the vice president of the Mayans Tuscon Charter on the show.
Navarro first made his appearance on the show in the Season 2 premiere episode “Xbalanque,” and he was a recurring character throughout the second and third seasons. However, it was revealed in the Season 3 finale that Pavia had died off-screen. On the April 19, 2022 premiere of the show, a title card at the end of the episode dedicated the episode to Navarro.
The Mayans MC premiere also featured a scene in which the members of the club honor their fallen brothers, with EZ Reyes (JD Pardo) going up to a table that features candles, weapons and cards representing each member who has died. It’s a touching moment that was a nod to the real-life death of the actor. Navarro was 41 years old when he passed away on January 5, 2019, at the Corpus Christi Regional Doctors Hospital in Texas. He was survived by his wife Rosalinda Dwell, three siblings and other family.
