What happened to rusev is an interesting question as the Bulgarian Brute is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling under the name Miro. He's also a former WWE United States Champion. The wrestler is the first Bulgarian to win a title in WWE and has also competed for other independent promotions.
On a recent episode of his "Oh You Didn't Know" podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg commented on Rusev Day. He stated that Rusev and Lana were extremely popular with the fans and he felt that he had a lot of ideas for the group. However, he said that his boss Vince McMahon shot down Rusev Day often.
The Bulgarian Brute began his main roster career with the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) developmental brand in 2012, where he made his debut alongside Lana as his manager and social ambassador. After competing in several matches, Rusev suffered a broken neck which caused him to miss some shows. During his recovery, he traveled to Thailand where he studied martial arts. Upon returning to FCW, he adopted a Russophillic, anti-American gimmick and named himself "Hero of the Russian Federation."
On the September 19 episode of SmackDown, Rusev would win a match against Orton after a distraction from Aiden English. Afterward, Rusev would proclaim each day as "Rusev Day" which became hugely popular with the fans. At Hell in a Cell on October 9, Rusev would get his revenge against Orton after he attacked English in the ring. After the event, Rusev would team up with Lana in a mixed tag team match against Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega and won.
