What Happened to Samsora?

August 23, 2023

Ezra “Samsora” Morris, a top Peach player in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has been banned from tournament events by Florida organizer Cagt over his involvement in the sexual misconduct allegations that have plagued the pro Smash community this year. Samsora was one of many players who commented on the situation between Zack “CaptainZack” Lauth and Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada, allegedly engaging in a romantic relationship with the latter while he was underage. Afterward, Saleem “Salem” Young would accuse Samsora of knowing about CaptainZack’s relationships with other players while they were underage, though he claimed that he did not want to cause legal repercussions for himself by sharing information.

As of this writing, Samsora has been banned from multiple tournament events. On Twitter, he has posted that he is “relieved” to be banned and that he will take this situation as a learning experience to continue to grow as a person. Many fans have taken issue with Samsora’s reaction to the bans, with some expressing dismay over his impulsive reactions and his claims that there is more to life than Smash.

Despite this, many fans remain hopeful that Samsora will return to the competitive scene in the future. Earlier this year, he stunned the world when he beat MKLeo, who was considered the best player in the world after his victories at EVO 2022 and Super Smash Con. The win was especially significant since MKLeo had won the past two major events in a dramatic fashion, and many assumed that Samsora’s victory would be short-lived.
