What Happened to Shaka on Family Reunion?

March 26, 2024

Over the years, viewers of Family Reunion have watched Shaka McKellan (Isaiah Russell-Bailey) grow and mature. The character began as a typical teenager with typical teenage angst, but his struggles and challenges have allowed him to evolve into a more confident, mature individual. Shaka’s journey reached a pivotal point in the latest episode.

Despite being attracted to Jade’s friend Royale, Shaka cannot let go of Mazzi and their feud. When he discovers that Royale is moving to Seattle, he takes matters into his own hands. A confrontation with a cop has the whole family on edge. M’Dear finds a way to lift the boys spirits by giving them a PlayStation.

Meanwhile, M’Dear and Grandpa’s deep Southern roots challenge Moz, Cocoa, and the kids big city ways. While cleaning out the attic, Shaka and Mazzi find M’Dear’s private mementos from a famous singer which stirs up drama with Grandpa. Cocoa’s unconventional beliefs shock M’Dear’s Bible-study group. And, when Braylan crosses the line by bullying both Mazzi and Elvis, Shaka sides with his rival to tell off the bully.

Some sitcoms recast characters when they leave the series or if the actor isn’t considered a good fit for the part. It’s unclear why Isaiah Russell-Bailey left Family Reunion, but his role was replaced by a new character called Tyson played by Jasun Jabbar Wardlaw Jr. He doesn’t appear in the Season 3 premiere, but fans are hoping that he will make a return later in the season.
