Joe Saylor is a percussionist and jazz musician who plays in the Stay Human house band on the Stephen Colbert Show. He has also performed or recorded with artists like Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, Dwayne Dolphin, Slide Hampton, and Angelo Versace. The Indiana, PA native was born to musical parents; both his mother Paula and father Nevin teach music in the Purchase Line and Indiana Area School Districts. He began playing drums at age three and was a member of the jazz trio Paj 3 throughout high school. He graduated from Indiana Area High School in 2004 and attended the Manhattan School of Music and Julliard.
The eight-episode premiere of Season 8 of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is set for Tuesday, Sept. 6, and the show will kick off with a new house band led by Louis Cato. He will be joined by longtime members Jon Lampley, Endea Owens, and Negah Santos and drummer Joe Saylor. Batiste left the band to pursue “personal and professional interests” after winning five Grammys in 2022, including Album of the Year for We Are and Best Music Video for the song Freedom.
