What Happened to Summer Wells?

March 12, 2024

Five-year-old summer wells vanished from her family's home in hawkins county in mid-june. She's been at the center of a statewide AMBER alert since. Her parents have cooperated with investigators and fought for custody of their three sons, all while hoping that she'll come home soon.

But despite an extensive search, no sign of the little girl has been found. The statewide amber alert remains active and authorities have been following up on tips. But police say they've seen an uptick in misinformation being shared online, which is hindering the investigation.

It's been a week since police began looking for Summer Moon-Utah Wells, who disappeared from her family's home in the Beach Creek community of Hawkins County. She was last seen June 15 around 6:30 p.m., her father Donald said. She was outside in the front yard planting flowers with her mother and grandmother when she disappeared.

The Wells' home is in a remote area surrounded by trees and thick vegetation. The property also has free-roaming dogs that would likely bark at any strangers. That's why some believe a stranger abduction is unlikely.

But don't discount the possibility of foul play. Summer's father, Don Wells, has a lengthy criminal history that includes convictions for burglaries and drug offenses in Arkansas, Utah, and Texas. And her mother, Candus Bly, has a record in Wisconsin that includes a conviction for misdemeanor domestic abuse. She has also been arrested for parole violations in Utah and in Arizona.
