The MMA world is mourning the loss of a beloved member of the UFC team. Suzy Friton was the lead makeup artist for the promotion. She was responsible for the make-up of the octagon girls, announcers and fighters on match nights. She had been with the promotion since 2006 and traveled to many different countries for events.
Friton had twice defeated stage two breast cancer in the past, but her condition worsened in March of this year. She had lost a lot of weight and was clearly struggling. She switched her treatment to a more holistic approach because she believed that the Western procedures were making her worse off. The new treatment seemed to work at first, and she was able to gain some weight back. However, the cancer eventually returned and took her life in September of 2021.
Many members of the UFC roster were close to Friton and paid their respects after her passing. The likes of Jon Jones, Dustin Poirier and former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas all encouraged fans to contribute to a GoFundMe campaign for Friton’s treatment. Namajunas even went as far as to auction off her fighting gear after regaining the title from Jessica Andrade at UFC 251. The move was incredibly heartwarming and touched many people. Jon Anik also dedicated an entire podcast episode to his friend and co-worker. She was a true warrior and will be missed by many.
