What Happened to the Cornelia Marie?

March 29, 2024

For 15 seasons, Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch has showcased one of the world’s most dangerous jobs through the eyes of seamen on their massive fishing vessels. The show has introduced viewers to a colorful cast of characters and vessels, including the F/V Cornelia Marie. However, this season, the famous crab boat has been notably absent. What happened to the cornelia marie?

Originally introduced in Season 2 of Deadliest Catch, the Cornelia Marie was captained by Phil Harris until his passing in Season 6. The boat would return several times with different captains, but it hasn’t appeared since its last appearance in Season 13.

The Cornelia Marie is most famous for a horrific injury that took place on the vessel. In the episode, greenhorn Maria hit her head on the ceiling of the bait freezer and suffered a concussion. To help her recover, Captain Casey McManus placed frozen peas on her head. The treatment helped Maria to regain consciousness and be able to work again.

Even though the Cornelia Marie isn’t featured on Deadliest Catch this year, the boat won’t be completely absent from the series. Josh Harris, Phil’s son, and co-captain Casey McManus have purchased the boat and will continue to operate it.

Additionally, eagle-eyed fans have shared online that they’ve spotted the Cornelia Marie in the trailer for Season 19. It’s possible the vessel will continue to appear on the show in the future.
