What Happened to the Enterprise E?

March 27, 2024

After the destruction of the Enterprise-D in Star Trek Generations, the Enterprise-E took its place as the Next Generation's new flagship. In addition to serving in a few Star Trek films, the Enterprise-E made regular appearances on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well. But after the 2002 film Star Trek: Nemesis, the Enterprise-E was never seen again in canon. But now, it looks like the ship may finally be getting its much-deserved swan song.

According to the upcoming season of the Star Trek Online series Prodigy, the Enterprise-E will be back in service in 2384. While the article doesn't say who will be captaining the vessel, it does mention that Jean-Luc Picard has been promoted to Admiral. Considering that the 'N'-class is now one of the oldest vessels in Starfleet, it seems safe to assume that the 'E' will be a replacement for the older ship, and will have a new captain.

The article does note that the 'E' will be patrolling near the site of the Battle of Rashanar, a massive fleet graveyard from one of the most deadly encounters of the Dominion War. The 'E' is also investigating a 200 year old distress signal sent by the Dokaalan race, in which they saved their population aboard a series of asteroid outposts. The crew also discovered a Soong-type android known as B-4, who was later revealed to be the prototype of the dreaded Reman warbird Scimitar.

The 'E' is expected to rendezvous with the Enterprise-F, which will make its debut in Star Trek: Picard season 3. But what happened to the enterprise e before that?
