After Red 2 was released in 2013, it didn’t make nearly as much money as the first movie did. It wasn’t a huge disaster, but it did have its share of criticism. Many fans were hoping for a third film, but it looks like that won’t be happening any time soon.
The movie stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban, and Mary-Louise Parker in the action comedy based on the limited comic book series Homage Comics by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. It was directed by Robert Schwentke and written by Jon and Erich Hoeber.
Unlike the first film, this one focuses on Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) who is trying to adjust to his retired life with Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker). Things aren’t going too well, so when he gets a call from an old CIA contact who wants him to reunite with his former team, he’s more than happy to comply.
When the team is reassembled, they find that they’ve been targeted by The Bishop (Harold Perrineau), who has discovered their location in order to steal a mysterious ancient egg. In order to save them, Frank, Marvin Boggs (Malkovich), and Decker (Hawke) must find the egg together before it’s too late.
As you can imagine, the cast is pretty busy these days. Helen Mirren is working on Fast and Furious 9, while Bruce Willis has four movies in post-production right now. He’s also starring in Cosmic Sin, which debuted on March 12. Brian Cox has voiced Death in the sci-fi podcast From Now On and is appearing in HBO’s Succession.
