Thierry Mugler, the French fashion designer who influenced an entire generation of young designers and counted A-listers like Lady Gaga among his famous clients, has passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the age of 73. He was a fashion icon who was also an acclaimed photographer, couturier and creative powerhouse. Besides designing costumes for Beyonce’s I Am... world tour, the iconic figure was also known for his line of perfumes and his starring role in the 1992 movie Alien.
Manfred Thierry Mugler was an incredibly interesting and complex figure, who lived a colorful life. The iconic designer had numerous plastic surgeries and even ventured into bodybuilding, where he exhibited an incredibly muscular physique with multiple tattoos and well-sculpted muscles. He made the news in 2019 when he went back to the press with a completely new face after having undergone some serious facial surgery. In an interview with Tippi Hedron, the renowned fashion designer revealed that he had suffered a severe jeep accident that destroyed his nose and had to undergo some extensive face reconstruction surgery.
Besides his fashion designs, Mugler was a prolific director who directed several high-profile movies and music videos. He was also a renowned photographer who shot some of the most influential celebrities and models of his time. He worked with the likes of Grace Jones, Demi Moore and many other stars who have gone on to become legends in their own right. Mugler also launched an eponymous brand in the 1970s and rose to fame for his dramatic, avant-grade runway shows.
