What Happened to Tom in Season 1 of Ginny and Georgia?

October 11, 2023

Throughout the season Ginny and Georgia has focused on many themes including self-harm, interracial family dynamics, and the road to recovery from addiction. But what really made it stand out was the series' dramatic finale. After a whiplash-inducing cliffhanger the season ended with Marcus (Felix Mallard) and Ginny (Brianne Howery) breaking up, Paul (Scott Porter) learning about Georgia's past, her son Austin (Diesel La Torraca) witnessing her kill Tom Fuller, and then Georgia getting arrested.

Unlike Georgia's two other murder victims, it wasn't an act of survival but rather an act of compassion. It was revealed in episode 8 that Tom's terminal illness had caused him to enter a coma. Cynthia, who was also a patient at Blue Farm Cafe, was struggling to care for him and her son Zach. She even began seeing Joe, the owner of a local restaurant.

As Georgia bonded with Cynthia, she realized that her own husband had been abusive in the past. As a way of protecting her friend she blocked Gil's rental application and in return, Georgia helped her out. This allowed her to bond with him and he was able to help her with her finances as well as heal from her previous traumas.

But in the end it was all for nothing. At the wedding Gabriel Cordova -played by Alex Mallari Jr.- barged in and arrested Georgia for killing Tom Fuller. He learned that she smothered him with a pillow. He also knew that Austin witnessed the event but swore to keep it a secret.
