Jill Marie Jones’s character Toni left the show in season 6, ending a long running feud with her girlfriend Joan. This was after Toni cheated on Joan’s fiance and then told her boss intimate details about Joan’s private life. This was all part of her toxic personality that had been a thorn in the side of her friends Lynn, Maya, and Joan.
In the end, Toni found love with Todd Garrett, a white Jewish plastic surgeon. They married and had a baby, Morgan. They eventually separated and worked out their differences over custody. Toni moved to New York and maintained her friendships with Lynn, Maya, and Joan.
Although many fans hoped Toni would return in the series finale, it was not to be. However, rumor has it that the showrunners had plans to bring her back but those never came to fruition. Jones continues to act on television, most recently appearing in the CW drama, Monogamy as Maggie.
In 2019, radio host Charlamagne tha God interviewed some of the original cast members of Girlfriends, including Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks, Persia White, and Jill Marie Jones. In the clip, Ross mentions that she’s hoping to see a reunion of the actresses on Black-ish. Although we’re still waiting for a full-on reunion, the cast of Girlfriends did get together in one episode of Black-ish, proving that they are all willing to come together years after their hit sitcom ended.
