Dr D David Schultz is a former professional wrestler and bounty hunter. He worked in North American regional promotions, including Stampede Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance and the American Wrestling Association during the late 1970s and 1980s.
He competed against a variety of big name stars in the wrestling business, such as Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. He also worked with several notable names from Stampede Wrestling, like Bret Hart and Dynamite Kid.
When he first entered the world of pro wrestling, David Schultz was trained by veteran Herb Welch. Welch, a shooter from the carnival days, was one of the last old school wrestlers who still believed in teaching hooking maneuvers that could legitimately cripple an opponent.
Welch taught Schultz to never be nice to fans and that if he were going to be a heel, he would have to learn how to be a real tough guy brawler. It was a hard way to go about being a wrestler, but it worked.
However, the former WWE star had an incident with 20/20 reporter John Stossel that would ultimately end his career. When the two were backstage at a Madison Square Garden show in late December 1984, Schultz delivered a slap to Stossel that knocked him down.
After this, Schultz was fired by Vince McMahon. In the aftermath, Schultz was a bounty hunter for several years, capturing over 1,700 people from various criminal organizations and drug traffickers.
